What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Our skilled team of plastic surgeons at Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Reston, VA helps many men and women each year achieve the stunning, sexy shape they want with Brazilian butt lift (BBL) surgery. During Brazilian butt lift surgery, unwanted fat is harvested from one area of the patient's body via liposuction and strategically injected into the buttocks to create a fuller, rounder butt shape. This concept is generally referred to as fat grafting or fat transfer to the buttocks. The most common areas for liposuction during a Brazilian Butt Lift are the abdomen, hips, and flanks, but fat can be harvested from other areas of the body as well.

It is important for patients to understand the difference between BBL and traditional butt lift surgery, the latter of which is designed to remove loose skin and physically lift and tighten the butt. Patients should also compare the benefits of Brazilian butt lift with butt augmentation, which utilizes silicone glute implants to enhance the butt shape. While butt implants can certainly produce gorgeous results, many men and women prefer BBL as a more natural alternative to butt augmentation.

Oftentimes, patients choose to combine BBL with tummy tuck surgery to simultaneously maximize the curves of the buttocks and trim the waistline for a fuller profile. The results can be as subtle or impressive as the patient wants, and the surgeons at Austin-Weston pride themselves as listeners who do their best to help patients achieve their ideal outcome.

What Are The Benefits Of A Brazilian Butt Lift?

A customized Brazilian butt lift performed by our experienced team of plastic surgeons can create the curves you want with a number of excellent benefits, including:

  • Eliminating fat from problem areas
  • Slimming and toning the body
  • Accentuating your natural curves
  • Improving shape and proportions
  • Enhancing the shape, size, and overall aesthetic appeal of your butt
  • Providing a safer alternative to implants
  • Achieving a natural look and feel

Is a Brazilian Butt Lift Right for Me?

Men and women who choose Brazilian Butt Lift get the best of both worlds since this dual procedure slims one area and adds natural volume to the buttocks. Ideal candidates for BBL will have the following:

  • Excellent skin elasticity in the buttocks area
  • Enough extra fat available for liposuction
  • Overall good health
  • Realistic expectations of the fat transfer

Patients who do not have enough excess fat for BBL surgery may be better-suited to gluteal implants. Additionally, patients with loose, wrinkled skin on the buttocks may benefit more from traditional butt lift surgery vs. BBL.

How Is a Brazilian Butt Lift Performed?

The Brazilian Butt Lift is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia in our fully accredited surgical facility. The procedure may last for several hours or longer if there are multiple areas of fat to be liposuctioned and/or if BBL is being performed as part of a larger procedure, such as mommy makeover surgery. Brazilian Butt Lift incisions are small and dependent on the areas having liposuction. After the harvested fat has been purified in our on-site centrifuge, it is carefully injected into the buttocks via syringe in thin, precise layers to ensure a smooth, natural-looking shape. After BBL surgery, we recommend no prolonged sitting for 4-6 weeks to allow the fat to 'take' properly and begin to live in its new location. The amount of permanent fat survival is evident by 6 – 8 weeks, and final post-operative photographs are taken around 3 months after Brazilian butt lift.

What REsults Can I Expect from a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Many patients choose a Brazilian Butt Lift because they want their new curves to look and feel natural without the need for an artificial implant. While the buttocks will at first appear large and swollen, the swelling resides over the first few weeks and some of the grafted fat is also reabsorbed by the body. For this reason, patients wanting maximum buttocks volume sometimes choose to undergo more than one fat grafting session. Patients should keep in mind that significant weight loss or weight gain after BBL will affect their results.

Brazilian Butt Lift FAQ

How much does a Brazilian butt lift cost?
The total cost for your Brazilian butt lift (BBL) will include the costs for both fat transfer and liposuction, facility fees, anesthesia, as well as care before and after your surgery. Once your surgeon has developed your BBL surgical plan, they will be better able to estimate your costs. We want you to focus on choosing a surgeon you trust, like our plastic surgeons, so we'll work with you to make your Brazilian butt lift easy to afford. Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery accepts many payment methods, and we can help you find low-interest financing.

Should I get implants or a fat transfer?
If you want to add volume to your buttocks, you get butt augmentation using either implants or a fat transfer (the Brazilian butt lift). In your consultation, your surgeon will explain both options and help you decide which best matches your physique and goals. They will also examine your body to decide which areas would benefit from liposuction (typically the stomach, back, or thighs). You may not be a candidate for a BBL if your body fat percentage is too low.

How long will my results last?
While some fat may be reabsorbed by your body after the Brazilian butt lift, most of the fat cells will remain in your buttocks for many years. To maintain your results, you should keep your weight steady because significant weight loss or gain will affect the results of the surgery. That's why our surgeons highly recommend you be at or near a healthy, stable weight before your Brazilian butt lift — so it's easy for you to maintain.

How can I recover faster after a BBL?
If you want to minimize your healing time following a BBL, your surgeon or a member of their team will explain post-operative instructions and tips. You should avoid sitting on your buttocks for at least 14 days as the area heals. Our surgeons recommend you have a Boppy nursing or donut-shaped pillow that allows you to sit down — so the pressure is on your legs rather than your butt. Short walks and light stretching will improve your blood flow and reduce inflammation. Your surgeon may also suggest a special post-surgical massage to help your body heal.

Will a Brazilian butt lift remove loose skin?
While it's called a Brazilian butt lift, this name is a little deceiving since it isn't actually a butt lift, which corrects loose and sagging skin in the butt. Although, the new volume added to your butt during a BBL may fill out some loose skin. If you are concerned about moderate to severe sagging skin in your buttocks, you may want a butt lift with a BBL. Your surgeon can explain your options based on your needs and concerns during your consultation.
