About Thigh Lift Surgery
Our skilled team of plastic surgeons at Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery is thrilled to provide area men and women with a variety of cosmetic options to enhance their look. Those who are unable to achieve a tighter silhouette to their upper legs with diet and exercise alone may be a good candidate for thigh lift surgery. This procedure removes loose skin from the inner thigh for a more defined look. In some cases, liposuction may be included. If a significant amount of liposuction is required, your surgeon may recommend first having thigh liposuction, and then coming back for a second operation to remove the extra skin from the thigh.
The two thigh lift options are a medial thigh lift or a vertical thigh lift. The medial thigh lift is for excess skin confined to the upper 1/3 of the inner thigh and that incision lays in the natural groove between the pubic bone and thigh. A vertical thigh lift is for patients with skin beyond the upper 1/3 of the inner thigh, and the incision for vertical thigh lift is down the inside of the thigh from the groin to the knee area. Call our Reston, VA office to learn more about how thigh lift surgery can help you.
The ideal candidates for surgical skin tightening of the thigh are:
- Men and women who have stretch marks and loose skin of their inner thigh
- Men and women who have had significant weight loss and have maintained their goal weight
- Men and women who are in overall good health and do not smoke
Thigh Lift Reviews
"Lower Body Lift and Arm Lift - Best Decision Ever! - Dr. Knotts performed my lower body lift and arm lift in Oct. 2018 after a 100 lb weight loss 2 years earlier. I couldn't be happier with the results and give Austin-Weston and Dr. Knotts my highest recommendation. He provided the absolute best care throughout the process and was very thorough and patient. I'm returning this spring so that Dr. Knotts can perform a thigh lift. If you're..."- R. / RealSelf / Jan 07, 2019
"Dr. Sigal is the most incredible doctor I've ever encountered, hands down. He's charming, personable, extremely honest, and most of all has the surgical skills of a genius. I have always had abnormally/ disproportionally large ankles and calves and after a prior botched surgery in which I saw no results (not to mention scarring, denting, dimpling, constant knee pain which sometimes caused me to limp, larger knees due to scarring and trauma, severe bruising, denting, prolonged/painful swelling and horrible bedside manor-- see my other reviews for more), I went to Dr. Sigal for corrective liposuction of the ankles, calves and knees. He also threw in the back of my thighs at no extra cost. (I think he felt bad for me). The results were amazing and the best part is I experienced very little pain (compared to my first procedure), only minor bruising, and relatively quick recovery time. The man is truly gifted...He's also a genuinely good person. During my first visit i was clearly traumatized from my prior experience but his warmth and humor eventually put me at ease. He wasn't preachy, condescending or clinical but he did give me clear guidance on what to expect and was even firm that I also had to take better care of myself to see lifelong results.Simply put-- Dr. Sigal changed my life. He not only saved me from a life if constant pain, but for the first time since I was 12 y/o I am able to wear a shorter skirt without getting the wrong kind of stares ( high school was hell, btw). I am so glad I stuck it out and braved another surgery. It was well worth it and I am forever grateful."- G.S. / Yelp / Nov 18, 2011
What to Expect
Thigh lift surgery is performed quite often, and is particularly common after weight loss. The surgery can be performed in an outpatient setting, but if combined with another procedure, an overnight stay at our surgical center may be encouraged. The incision for the thigh lift varies from patient to patient depending on what type of thigh lift is being performed (medial vs. lateral), as well as the amount, location, and severity of the loose skin being removed. This cosmetic procedure is performed with the patient under general anesthesia and usually takes 1 – 3 hours in the operating room. Most patients take off work for 1-2 weeks.
After a thigh lift, swelling and bruising will be evident for a few weeks. Scar care is initiated from early on, and the scar will initially be red or pigmented, but will mature and look better each month. The scar fades significantly after 1-2 years. Most patients are back doing regular activity by 3 weeks and can resume physical exertion around 6 weeks. Postop photos are taken at 3 months typically.
