what is breast augmentation with lift?

For women who are unsatisfied with the shape and size of their bust, a breast augmentation combined with a breast lift (also known as augmentation mastopexy) can help breasts appear fuller, rounder, perkier, and more youthful. The augmentation portion of the procedure gives the breast more volume and cleavage, and the breast lift portion of the procedure lifts drooping breast tissue and the nipple up into the appropriate position. The result is a more elevated appearance that is voluminous and sexy. During a breast augmentation with a lift, the implant is placed to first restore volume. Next, the excess skin is removed around the breast in order to reshape it. This also lifts the nipple to a more perky and strraight-forward position so the overall breast remains in harmony and balance. The size of the areola is sometimes altered as well depending on the amount of native areola skin and desired final size.

What are the types of Breast Lift Incisions?

Depending on your individual breast enhancement goals, there are several variations of breast lift surgery performed by our cosmetic surgeons. The three most common incision patterns are anchor (a scar that goes around the areola, down the front of the breast, and also under the breast), lollipop (around the areola and down the front of the breast) or circumareolar (a scar around areola only).

In each type of breast lift procedure, your surgeon removes excess skin and tissue to lift and tighten the bust. This process reverses the effects of aging and pregnancy to give you perkier, younger-looking breasts. The type of lift that is best for your body is determined at the time of your complimentary consultation. The factors that dictate the type of lift performed include patient preference, the degree of droop, and the size of the implant chosen.

Patients often inquire whether they need a breast lift, augmentation or both. If you know you want larger breasts than your current size, your surgeon will talk to you about placing an implant. Based on the size of that implant and your desired 'look,' your surgeon may recommend a type of breast lift to accompany the augmentation. This is very much based on the individual and requires an in-person examination and discussion. On occasion, patients want an 'augmented look' with lots of cleavage, but they do not want larger breasts in terms of cup size. For those patients, your surgeon may recommend a staged procedure where you first have the lift and a small reduction performed, and once those incisions heal, you come back for a second procedure when the breast implant is placed. This is also a long discussion that requires a consultation with one of our plastic surgeons.

how long is recovery from BREAST AUGMENTATION WITH LIFT?

Most women take a week off work to recover from a breast augmentation with a lift. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes around 2 – 3 hours to perform. Patients are typically off daytime pain medication by the one-week mark but may still require some pain medication at night to rest comfortably. The plastic surgeons at Austin-Weston ask patients to avoid strenuous activity for the first week postoperatively and to avoid chest pectoralis muscle exercises for six weeks. Final photographs are taken around 3 months and the scars can be expected to fade and lighten for several years after the procedure.
