About Brow Lift Surgery
The brow can descend with aging, causing the upper eyelids to feel heavy and give off a tired or worried appearance. Muscles in the forehead try to compensate, which results in deep lines across the forehead from those muscles constantly trying to pull the brow up into a normal position.
Patients often frequently inquire about a ‘Botox brow lift,’ and while Botox can give the appearance of lifting to a normal brow, once the brow has descended, Botox usually only makes the heaviness worse and surgery is the best long-term option.
A surgical brow lift elevates the brow back into its normal position. This is frequently combined with upper eyelid surgery, also known as upper blepharoplasty, to remove the extra eyelid skin. Brow lift surgery may be your best option if you have drooping eyebrows, frown lines, and wrinkles across the forehead. There are several different types of brow lift, including endoscopic brow lift, hairline or 'pretrichial' brow lift, lateral brow lift and a classic brow lift. Call Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Reston, VA today to set up a private consult with one of our plastic surgeons and see which type might be right for you.
The best candidates for brow lift surgery:
- Have excess forehead skin creating folds and creases
- Have droopy upper eyelids and eyebrows
- Want a long-lasting solution
- Have a brow that has descended below the edge of the orbital bone
Brow Lift Reviews
"I found Dr Weston to be delightful to talk with, very informative and compassionate. He performed several surgical procedures on my face including a mid face lift, brow lift and blepharoplasty. The results are amazing, giving me not only a younger appearance-it is nearly impossible to tell that any surgical procedure has been performed!"- Anonymous / RateMDs / Oct 27, 2013
"Brow Lift - Reston, VA - Dr Weston is a perfectionist and a pro. He knows exactly what he is doing and does it well. I went to several ophthalmologists who just wanted to remove the skin but I believed Dr Weston when he said a brow lift is the only way to go for me. Healing time was about right - went on a cruise in late April and everyone kept mentioning how rested I looked...no one guessed anything more than that. Now, six months later, I continue to see small changes as the botox wears off and my brows lower slightly. But I am very pleased overall and would highly recommend this doctor"- M. / RateMDs / Nov 03, 2013

"Complete Facelift, Neck Lift, Corners of Mouth, Lips, Eyebrow Lift, Up, Lower Eyelids, Chin, Cheekbones - Their reputation was impeccable, the doctors had a great deal of experience, friend's referral, positive experience when I went for my first consult, very knowledgeable staff, my patient councilor had been through the same procedures and she understood what I would be going through in terms for healing time, and after surgery care. Last but by no means least was the computer program my patient councilor used to give me an idea of how I would look after I was healed."- C. / RateMDs / Oct 14, 2008
What To Expect
Most brow lift surgeries are performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient surgery at our accredited surgical center. For brow surgery, small incisions are placed in low visibility areas, such as behind the hairline. The region of the incisions depends on the patient's anatomy. Via these incisions, one of our plastic surgeons will re-contour the soft tissues to life the brow to its normal anatomic level. This may involve altering the skin, muscles or hairlilne to achieve these goals.
Brow lift surgery usually takes about two hours and the typical recovery period is around 1 – 3 weeks. For the first days after the surgery, patients should expect some temporary bruising, discomfort, tightness, and numbness. The brow may be slightly over lifted initially but relaxes once the sutures are removed around 1 week. Our plastic surgeons will talk to each patient about aftercare instructions and provide tips for an easier recovery. Patients will need to return for a follow-up appointment in one week to have their sutures removed. While visible improvements can be seen after a week, optimal results of a brow lift are usually seen at about 4 – 6 months after the surgery.
