About Laser Skin Resurfacing
Skin resurfacing is a way to remove the most superficial layers of skin and let the deeper cells heal in with new skin that is healthier-appearing. The resurfacing removes fine lines and wrinkles and gives a healthy glow. Halo, the world’s first hybrid fractional laser is our go-to method for skin resurfacing. The latest laser resurfacing technology can eliminate layers of sun-damaged skin and safely remove old skin cells on the face. In addition, it can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and acne scarring. The unique properties of the Halo™ laser allow the removal of thin layers of skin while minimizing damage to the surrounding skin and tissue. Since the Halo™ laser is so precise and provides controlled flexibility, the depth and penetration of the laser on the skin’s surface can be specifically adjusted to meet the individual skin condition of each patient. Call Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Reston, VA to set up a personal consultation with one of our plastic surgeons.
Laser Skin Resurfacing Reviews
"Shima Karimi - Laser Skin Treatment - Total Professional - Shima spent so much time going over the procedure, and then was meticulous in performing it. Although full results will take a while, there was immediate improvement in the appearance of my skin (spider vein / broken capillary treatment on legs)."- L.F. / RealSelf / Nov 07, 2020
"Chemical Peel with Shima - I recently had a Perfect Derma Peel by Shima. She was very patient with all my questions and explained everything well. I have also seen her for laser treatments. Laser skin resurfacing is a good option for patients who have skin trouble on their face and neck, including:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Sun-damaged skin
- Uneven skin tone and texture
- Scars and brown spots
What to Expect
Laser skin resurfacing can be superficial or deep, and the deeper the treatment, the longer the recovery. Some laser resurfacing has little to no downtime, and some deeper resurfacing requires topical creams around the clock for a week and then takes weeks to months of pink skin healing in before the final results are seen. Every treatment is tailored to the patient's specific skin conditions and desired outcome. Laser skin resurfacing uses a tiny laser beam to treat thousands of pinpoint areas of the skin. Since only a fraction of the skin is directly treated with the laser, the surrounding untreated tissue promotes rapid healing. The skin’s healing response creates new collagen, adding firmness and resilience to the skin.
Patients may have some redness or swelling for 1–3 days after their procedure, but it is usually mild and easily concealed with makeup for a superficial treatment. After treatment, patients should be careful to avoid direct sunlight and wear sun protection since the skin will be sensitive after the procedure. While most patients will see some results right away, optimal results will appear in 2–3 months as the skin repairs itself. For deeper resurfacing, patients may see redness for weeks, but this can be covered with makeup after the first week of recovery. During the first week the skin will be weepy and swollen and most patients largely stay indoors to heal during this time.
