What Is PRP Therapy?
Accessing the body’s innate reparative abilities, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a popular technique that helps with skin tightening, hair restoration, and other cosmetic advancements to men and women in Reston, VA. Platelet-rich plasma therapy from Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery injects plasma directly from an individual's bloodstream into specific sections throughout the complexion or body to target damaged areas and generate smoother, rejuvenated skin. Often called “liquid gold,” plasma comprises platelets and growth factors that, as they're reestablished into the tissue, encourage collagen and elastin generation. Austin-Weston is delighted to administer platelet-rich plasma therapy to naturally restore the skin and help patients reach their cosmetic aims. PRP Treatments Reviews
"I looked old, tired and angry. I felt old, tired and angry. I had aged way beyond my 58 years and after years of wanting plastic surgery, it was time to take action. My sister had gone to Dr. Robert Sigal at Austin-Weston for breast implant replacements and was very happy with his work, but I wanted a surgeon that had significant experience with facial rejuvenation. After extensive research, it turned out that Dr. Sigal had the exact experience I was looking for. As soon as I met Dr. Sigal , I knew that he was the surgeon for me. We decided on the procedures (rhinoplasty, face/neck lift, mid-face lift, upper and lower bletharoplasty, chin re-shaping, lip and corner mouth lift, fat grafting to various areas and fraxel laser treatment) and then I scheduled the surgery a few months following the consultation to give me time to prepare my skin to ensure the best results from the fraxel. Following the surgery, I spent the night in the Austin-Weston clinic with a full-time nurse watching over me. My nurse made sure I got my medications, checked my drain, kept me company, etc., so I was able to get a good nights sleep. Dr. Sigal had left to do volunteer work in Haiti so Dr. Weston came in to check me over and sent me on my way. Even though I looked like I had been in a bar fight, I had no pain. It was uncomfortable and a little annoying for the first 5 days, but that’s it. I took Valium and Motrin but did not need the oxicodone at all. By the second week, I could go out with makeup. I am now at week 8 and I feel terrific. No more old, tired, angry old lady! I can not express how wonderful this change has been for me. Thank you Dr. Sigal!"- J.A. / Google / Feb 15, 2017

How Does PRP Therapy Work?
Platelet-rich plasma therapy is a minimally invasive procedure we proudly offer at Austin-Weston, The Center for Cosmetic Surgery. Once you're relaxed, a bit of blood will be removed from your arm. This sample will be put into a centrifuge machine, which will separate the plasma. When your PRP injection is set up, a member of our knowledgeable team will effectively distribute the blood plasma into the treatment areas. In many cases, PRP therapy is combined with a microneedling treatment to help the platelets better absorb into the deeper layers of the skin. For hair restoration, the treatment includes a similar three-step process in which blood will be drawn, put through a centrifuge, and then injected into the scalp to promote hair growth. These treatments may need to be repeated periodically in order to maintain your best results. PRP therapy usually takes about 20 minutes based on the number of areas being improved, and in many cases, carries close to no downtime.
What Can I Expect After a PRP Treatment?
Someone from our Reston, VA staff will go over aftercare information and what to anticipate as you heal succeeding your platelet-rich plasma therapy session. It is normal to spot tiny amounts of blood on the treated area and to have side effects, like discoloration and inflammation, which may be managed with a cold pack set on the treatment region. Since PRP treatment utilizes your own blood, there is barely any probability of allergic or negative reaction, offering a safe treatment for skin revitalization. Our patients notice changes in their skin about one week following their procedure and softer, more radiant skin after about 1 – 2 months.
